Wine Tour Yarra Valley
Coombe- The Melba Estate was built in 1909 and sits amongst 7 acres of stunning gardens. The estate has a fascinating family story as one of the oldest and largest estates in the Yarra Valley. Once the home of Australia’s first opera diva Dame Nellie Melba. This spectacular house with beautiful gardens, a gallery, restaurant and on-site cellar door is a wonderful Premium Wine Tasting visit.
Dame Nellie Melba was an Australian operatic soprano. She became one of the most famous singers of the late Victorian era and the early 20th century, and was the first Australian to achieve international recognition as a classical musician. She took the pseudonym “Melba” from Melbourne, her home town. There are many references to Dame Nellie Melba in Melbourne and in other parts of Australia. She is the face on the Australian $100 note, our journey to the Yarra Valley will take us on the Melba Highway and our return through the Melba Tunnel.
Coombe Estate offers a stunning location with unrivalled provenance, beautifully manicured gardens and a unique cellar door experience.
Here we match the 2014 Tribute Series Nellie Melba Sparkling Blanc de blanc with a freshly shucked Sydney bay oyster with Red wine vinegar and shallot dressing. Followed by a wine tasting with a showcase of the award winning estate grown Coombe Farm wines.
Here you can take the time to look at the gardens and through the gallery that includes black and white footage showing Dame Nellie Melba under the Oak Tree outside her home, now a very popular place for wedding vows in the Yarra Valley.
