Wine Tour Mornington Peninsula

We incorporate a wonderful dining experience comprising of a 2 course lunch with a glass of wine at  Merrick’s General Wine Store on your Wine Tour Mornington Peninsula

Nestled between rolling hills and over looking the beautiful coastline of Westernport Bay, the homestead was built in 1922 to serve as a community space, post office and general store.

Merrick’s General Wine Store is the most iconic historical establishment on the Mornington Peninsula comprising of a providore, popular verandah coffee window for locals, breakfast, lunch and dinner menus along with everything in between. The cellar door is home to Elgee Park wines, 100% estate grown and Mornington Peninsula’s oldest vineyard and Baillieu wines as well as some small batch local producers that are exclusive to this cellar door. Your wine tasting at Merrick’s General Wine Store starts with sparkling wine and includes Riesling, Pinot Gris, Viognier, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon. Here you can sample the popular styles of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and some less seen and very special wines on tasting here.  Choose your glass of wine to enjoy with lunch.

Retaining all the character and charm of vintage “Australiana” with its tin and timber structure, timber floors, verandahs and decks, Merrick’s General Store is an ideal lunch spot to stop for a leisurely and relaxed lunch with your small group in any season. We will find you a cosy corner, open fire or outdoor dining options on the sunny terrace. You can also take the time to wander though the garden to Merrick’s House Art Gallery that features local and Australian artists with regulary curated exhibitions and local traders.

Chef’, Patrice Repellin has a fabulous menu of food with flair, reflecting the seasons with local produce and French inspired hearty country cuisine.

A day of Food and Wine on the Mornington Peninsula

Wine Tour Melbourne

So my very first tour in 3 months. Today, a Mornington Peninsula Wine Tour. After so long it was wonderful to be able to spend the day talking about wine. As usual we had guests that were looking forward to a fun day filled with wine and food. The new normal of winery tours includes many regulations within wineries and now part of our process that need to be followed by wine tour operators. It is what we are all used to now with using hand sanitiser before entering a new location, signing in, social distancing and touching as few things as possible that are likely to be shared among other people.

I pick up Kimberley and Leah from St Kilda and was delighted to hear the familiar American accent. Both girls live in Melbourne and had never visited the Mornington Peninsula. It was one of those crisp winters day when the sun shines bright with a chill in the air so it feels like spring. I was a bit nervous with what the general procedure around health and safety restrictions would look like for guests. My biggest concern related  to timing on the day and if the time spent at wineries was quicker than usual if I would be open to find enough wineries open on a Thursday to fill the day.  Fortunately on the Mornington Peninsula I had sightseeing as a back up. I am happy to say that the day ran really well and we managed to include a stop at the Dendy Street Bathing Boxes for some more photos. I am so grateful for the wineries that have sprung back into the “new normal” and making this as comfortable as possible. Many mentioned that they are enjoying the smaller groups sizes and the local market. Guests also enjoyed being seated for what was more like a traditional wine flight with a dedicated and passionate cellar door representative.

We made bookings all the way so enjoyed being welcomed at each winery.
